Some kind words from students:

I don't know if you know this, but you really boosted my confidence in acting. Ever since I took your class I've gotten several leading roles, and now I'm the lead in an independent suspense/thriller in Vancouver. So thank you for your direction and constructive criticism. You don't know how much it means to me. - Katie Root

I just wanna say that I've been having a great time in my acting class over the last 6 weeks and tonight was incredible! Thank you Shelly Lipkin - you are an awesome teacher!! I highly recommend Shelly to anyone interested in learning from the best! - Tom Avila

I took your on screen acting class a few months ago and today I found out I was booked for Grimm! Since your class I've been called back for nearly everything I've auditioned for and even landed a role in my first feature film and now my first network television spot. I really don't think I would have been able to go into those auditions feeling as ready and confident as I did if not for your classes.

Thanks again!

I  took this class and it was a HUGE help to me making the transition from stage to screen. I have gotten work (thanks Shelly!) that I would not have gotten without the preparation this class gave me.

Great, fast, clear, useful prep for getting out there into PDX film land!

I've learned a lot from Shelly. If you haven't taken any of his classes, you're doing yourself a disservice.- Jacob Rosen

For anyone who really wants to know themselves and really wants to know how to reach that "hidden actor" within themselves- you OWE it to yourself to make contact with Shelly. This man is a fantastic teacher and a fantastic person! - Mike Briggs

Yes, let me be the second person to endorse any Acting for the Camera class taught by Shelly Lipkin!  I just took a class with him this fall and it was amazing!  I've always been a 100% theatre actor and so this was totally new to me.  In 6 weeks, Shelly took me from terrified to confident.  He has a great style of teaching and each class is well planned out and interesting.  He gives great notes and direction but is also really able to steer you towards making interesting choices all on your own!  Our class was comprised of folks with varying levels of experience, from non-actors testing the waters to experienced performers.  Shelly was able to tailor to everyone's needs and often taught an extra hour or so if you wanted to stay and learn more!  I know he teaches at the Lime Lab but he also has classes at Lakewood and I think he'll also be teaching a few classes in a new space this winter.  I will be signing up for his next class and can't say enough about how fabulous he is!  He is also a bargain - there are too many classes in this town that are frankly too expensive to take.  The cost is totally reasonable.  When I think about it, he's easily worth more!
So in other words, call SHELLY!!!!!!  -- Amanda Soden

I cannot recommend Shelly Lipkin highly enough as a film acting teacher.  He is a complete actor who has successfully gone back and forth between stage and film work, and he is the one to teach you how to do it.  In his relaxed, informal, low-stress class Shelly helped me, an experienced actress, to make a better and more confident transition between stage and film.  He does an excellent job at clarifying the differences and worked with me to leave out the bigger details on film and trust that the camera captures all your preparation character work.  Seeing your own classroom performance played back immediately with gentle and positive critique was the tool I needed to continuously improve my film acting skills from week to week and increase my confidence level in front of the camera.  My film auditions have felt so much better since taking Shelly's class and I have also had plenty of positive feedback on them, the ultimate testimonial as to how much Shelly helped me.  I recommend Shelly Lipkin to anyone - regardless of experience level - looking for personalized individual help in film acting with a calm and friendly teacher who is behind you all the way.  I'll be back to take more class with Shelly and I hope to see you there!  -- Siobhan Caverly

When I began taking Shelly’s class, for some reason I considered film acting to be a much more specialized medium than it really was. It was helpful to realize early on in the process that film acting is just slightly different than acting for the stage: a less “amped up” version, so to speak, when we don’t have to worry about a large audience picking up the intricacies of the performance (the camera picks it up). It was also nice to work with Shelly in a very relaxed environment. I recommend this class to those looking to build a better foundation for acting/reacting in any environment.  --  Patrick Oury

My experience with Shelly Lipkin’s acting class, started with an audition for Ryan Artists to become a member of their agency. As mainly an actress of the theatre, I wanted to expand my tool kit and knowledge and began asking the staff of anyone they could recommend for such experience. As a recent transplant from New Mexico, I was relying on strictly word of mouth. Fortunately, they directed me to Shelly Lipkin’s Film Acting Class. I was instantly drawn to his experience and length of time on the L.A. film, commercial, and television scene. Shelly shared many useful business tips surrounding the world of film for an actor on top of his knowledge about just the craft of acting behind a lens. The insider business information and tips only made the class doubly useful to actors wishing to pursue this line of craft. I was also impressed by the dedication of Shelly in that he is often willing to extend classes into his personal time to ensure everyone gets the amount of work shopping on a piece they need. The information is pertinent and useful to not only actors, but technicians, directors, and writers. Shelly teaches with the ability to blend together students of completely different backgrounds and amounts of experience while maintaining clear explanations about a craft that is very mysterious and often difficult to conceptualize. I found myself leaving his class with a more grounded and solid feeling about acting for either theatre or film. Take this class to expand yourself at any level which you may happen to be with your craft. -- Merrit Glover
